Revealed: The largest amount of English players to feature in a single Premier League match

The formation of the Premier League has attracted more players from across the globe to England

English football has elevated at an incredible rate since the formation of the Premier League in 1992/93. 

The money from TV and sponsorship deals has allowed football clubs to spend astronomical amounts of money and build their brand into global institutions in some cases. 

One result of the Premier League's formation is the decreasing of home-grown players in the English game. 

On Boxing Day 1999, Gianluca Vialli chose a starting XI without a single British player, the first time that has ever happened in Football League history. 

Arsene Wenger and Avram Grant took this a step further ten years later when Arsenal won 4-1 at Portsmouth in a game where neither side fielded an English player in the starting XI - a first for the top division. 

There was once a time when the majority of players on the pitch were English, but what is the record number of English players to feature in a single Premier League game?

According to Opta, there has never been a Premier League match in which all 22 players in the starting XI of both sides were English.

The most is 21, when QPR faced Newcastle in January 1994 with the only non-Englishman being QPR goalkeeper Tony Roberts, a Welshman.
