Newcastle 1-0 Huddersfield: Magpies land win thanks to Perez strike
Ayoze Perez fired Newcastle to the brink of Premier League safety as his fifth goal of the season arrived in the nick of time against Huddersfield.
The Spaniard slid home Kenedy's 80th-minute cross to finally break the deadlock on a tense afternoon at St James' Park, much to the relief of the bulk of a crowd of 52,261.
Victory eased the Magpies seven points clear of the drop zone but left the visitors in serious peril.
Star Man
Mo Diame has really come to the fore in recent matches. He’s improved across the season and put in a superb performance against the Terriers as he dominated the midfield. Central midfield partner Jonjo Shelvey also deserves an honourable mention.
Moment of the Match
It could have been the the could have been down to ten men after 50 minutes with the game still level at 0-0 following a dreadful challenge from Kenedy on Elias Kachunga. The challenge eventually resulted in the Huddersfield star, only just returning from a long-term absence, being substituted.
