Chelsea have put plans for their new stadium on hold for the foreseeable future.

The club had been working to knock down Stamford Bridge and rebuild and entirely new arena on the same ground – a project which was set to take around four years.

But the Blues have now announced they are halting work on the design and planning work.

A statement on their website read: “Chelsea Football Club announces today that it has put its new stadium project on hold. No further pre-construction design and planning work will occur.

“The club does not have a time frame set for reconsideration of its decision.

“The decision was made due to the current unfavourable investment climate.”
