Liverpool FC news: How Jurgen Klopp’s front six could look in the 2018/19 Premier League season with Fabinho
Liverpool fans have been inspired by the surprise signing of Fabinho and are already plotting their path to glory next season.
The Brazil star joins for £44million and is set to be a core part of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield along with fellow new signing Naby Keita.
How will his arrival alter how the Reds can line up tactically this season?
Able to play as defensive midfielder, as a box-to-box operator, or at right-back, he could really alter what they are able to do as group and offers great fluidity.
But how will the front six now look going forward into the 2018/19 Premier League season? Check out the possible tactics below…
Option one: 1-2-3 - the same as last season
It can’t be doubted Fabinho’s arrival will threaten the playing time of Jordan Henderson. The Brazil midfielder is likely to nab his starting spot and play the defensive midfield role allowing Naby Keita to his left and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to his right to get forward and interact with their well-oiled front-three which has been working like a charm in 2017/18.

Option two: 2-1-3 – shoring up the midfield
Whether from the start against tougher opponents, or late on in matches when the three points are being protected, the Reds will look to solidify with a two-man central pairing. This should see Jordan Henderson come into the midfield alongside Fabinho and help them bunker down in the face of any onslaught that may come their way. Keita would be allowed a freer role ahead of them to either join the attack or drop deep and hold with Henderson and Fabinho, before springing forward into attacking transitions to provide ammo for the front three.

Option three: 4-2 diamond
Against more stubborn sides lined up with a back-three, it’s likely Liverpool’s full-backs will spring to life and bomb down wing. This will allow the midfield and forward lines to play narrower and focus on working through the packed defence with precise passes and perfectly executed runs. It will also need the Reds’ most efficient dribblers to be able to carry the ball beyond their men and break the defensive lines, a neat diamond with Fabinho at the base and pacy threats Mane and Salah up top should do the trick, in theory.

Option four: All-out attack
There is only one currency in football – goals. Luckily, Liverpool’s frontline aren’t shy about putting the ball in the back of the net. But if they ever find themselves behind in games, or wanting to attack from the off in matches they may well adopt this formation. Fabinho can sit as the sole holding player, and allow their front-five to do the damage with the security the Brazilian will provide. Salah can slide inside, allowing Oxlade-Chamberlain to drift to the flank, with Keita playmaking outside the penalty area in a central role.
