The 5-1 thrashing of Cardiff was the first time that United have scored five goals in a Premier League game since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final match in charge. What an extraordinary start for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Mike Phelan must be wondering what all the fuss has been about.

Following Manchester City’s defeat at Newcastle last night, the Reds could have put themselves in a commanding position at the summit and got off to the perfect start when Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead after just two minutes.
