An ardent fan of the competition, Santiago Solari used to miss school to watch the finals of the early 1990s. Having won the Intercontinental Cup as a player, he is now gunning for Club World Cup glory as a coach.

Travelling Liverpool fans were caught up in trouble ahead of Saturday’s showdown against Real Madrid , after being apparently attacked in a restaurant. The Daily Mirror published a video of violent scenes, claiming a group of Reds supporters were attacked by a 'gang on masked hooligans'.
