On Saturday 2 February, Everton midfielder Andre Gomes opened his Premier League scoring account with a stunning long-range strike against Wolves. The goal not only cemented the rich vein of form that has made the Portuguese invaluable to the Toffees in recent months, but also capped an emotion- and affection-filled week for the No8.

Following Manchester City’s defeat at Newcastle last night, the Reds could have put themselves in a commanding position at the summit and got off to the perfect start when Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead after just two minutes. Travelling Liverpool fans were caught up in trouble ahead of Saturday’s showdown against Real Madrid , after being apparently attacked in a restaurant. The Daily Mirror published a video of violent scenes, claiming a group of Reds supporters were attacked by a 'gang on masked hooligans'.
