Reece James now first-choice, Mason Mount to return? How Chelsea could line up against West Ham in Premier League clash
Chelsea will be without star striker Tammy Abraham when they welcome West Ham to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday.
The 22-year-old, who is currently second in the top-flight’s goalscoring charts, was stretchered off during the 2-2 draw with Valencia in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
It also certainly means a rare start for Belgium forward Michy Batshuayi as the Blues look to strengthen their position inside the top four.
Batshuayi has been used mainly as an impact sub this season, but the 26-year-old has made valuable contributions, including the winner away at Ajax last month.
And that might not be the only change Frank Lampard makes as he comes up against his former club.
Mason Mount has lost his place in the starting XI in recent weeks, with Lampard preferring a midfield three of Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante.
Those three have made themselves almost impossible to drop, but Mount is versatile and could slot into Chelsea’s front three.
Christian Pulisic and Willian have started each of the club’s last five games and Lampard will surely be tempted to rest one of them.
In defence, we expect the Blues manager to stick with 19-year-old Reece James at right-back following a string of impressive performances.
Moving Cesar Azpilicueta over to left-back, amid the indifferent form of Marcos Alonso and Emerson, has worked well for Chelsea in recent games, with James carrying a far greater threat down the right.
Meanwhile, Fikayo Tomori could return in place of Andreas Christensen, who looked shaky during the draw in Valencia.
Here’s how Chelsea could line up on Saturday:
