Cristiano Ronaldo has given the seal of approval to Manchester United’s signing of Bruno Fernandes.

United completed a deal for Ronaldo’s fellow countryman on Thursday, with the Portuguese midfielder joining the Premier League club from Sporting CP in a deal which could be worth up to £68million.

Likened to Frank Lampard and with an emphatic golascoring record to boot, it seems as though the 25-year-old is exactly what the Red Devils need.

And, according to Rio Ferdinand, fellow United legend Ronaldo has been glowing about the talents of his international teammate, along with Luis Nani.

“I’ve spoken to a few of his teammates at national level and club level,” Ferdinand told FIVE.

“Nani, my old teammate, says he’s a fantastic player, says he’s perfect for England. Says he’s got all the tools, all the right attributes.

“Cristiano said he’s fantastic, creates chances for him. He can manipulate the ball, take the ball, confident.

“These are the type of things that you want to hear when Manchester United are signing a player.

“So fans, based on what I’ve heard about him and what I’ve seen, I’m hopeful and confident that this guy can go out there and do the job.”

In an interview with the club’s official website, midfielder Fernandes spoke of his delight at joining United.

And he revealed how it was thanks to Ronaldo that he first fell in love with the club.

He said: “My love of Manchester United really started when I used to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever since then I have been a big fan of this great club.

“For me to now play for Manchester United feels incredible, I have worked hard to get to this moment and I can promise the fans that I will give everything for the badge to help bring us more success and trophies.

“I want to thank Sporting for everything they have done for me.  It is surreal to hear the nice words that have been said about me from players that used to play for this team.

“A massive thank you to Ole and everyone at Manchester United for the trust they have shown in me and I can’t wait to start to repay that on the pitch.”
