Jordan Henderson EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool captain says Premier League season needs to be completed, ‘Not only for us, but for the rest of the league’
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has told talkSPORT he was never really concerned about the prospect of the Premier League season being ruled ‘null and void’.
English football has been on hold since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the Reds two wins away from claiming their first title in 30 years.
The Premier League have now declared that the plan is to restart on June 17.
When asked if he ever worried the campaign could be voided, Henderson replied during the talkSPORT Quiz: “Not really.
“I think obviously for us we still think we’ve got work to do, and we have. We’ve got nine games left and we want to win as many of them as possible.
“And that was all our focus was on really in terms of just wanting to get back and waiting for the right time to go back.
“I was always under the impression that, not only for us but for the rest of the league, it needed finishing at some point.”
As things stand, Liverpool sit top of the table on 82 points with their nearest rivals Manchester City a massive 25 points behind.
Clubs have now returned to training ahead of the restart, which has been a boost for Henderson.
He continued: “We’re all back training now, so we’ve been working hard.
“It’s been good to get back, get some good sessions in.
“The weather’s been good to make it even more difficult, but it’s been good to get back out there.
“At first it was in small groups for the first week, which actually was quite good.
“It sort of eased us back in again, a little bit of light training, some decent sessions.
“And then obviously we went into the bigger group now and full-contract training, so that’s been really good.”
On resuming the camaraderie with his teammates, the Reds captain concluded: “That’s been brilliant, just being back and obviously training.
“Seeing the lads on a day-to-day basis again and just having that banter.
“You do miss it, so it’s nice to be back and hopefully we can just continue like this until the games get played again.”
