‘It’s not even a foul’ – Luka Milivojevic saw red for ‘winning the ball’ against Wolves as Roy Hodgson fumes over ‘ridiculous’ call

Roy Hodgson was furious with Luka Milivojevic’s red card during Crystal Palace’s 2-0 defeat at Wolves – and Tony Cascarino agrees the decision was incredibly harsh.

The Eagles slipped to a 2-0 defeat on Friday night, but the main talking point was Milivojevic’s challenge on Joao Moutinho.

The incident looked awful in slow motion – but was it really that bad?

While the tackle looked dangerous in real time, replays showed the Serbian actually won the ball before following through on Moutinho’s ankle.

Nonetheless, Martin Atkinson brandished the red card after consulting the pitch-side monitor, much to the outrage of Palace boss Hodgson.

He said: “I don’t think it was a little bit harsh, I think it was ridiculously harsh because I don’t even think it was a foul.

“I’ve said that to the referee, he knows what I think about it, but I can’t possibly stand here and say I thought it was a foul.

Atkinson quickly changed his mind after consulting the monitor

“I’ve seen it on the replay like everybody else and I see Milivojevic winning the ball and making no intention whatsoever to make any contact with Moutinho.”

Meanwhile, talkSPORT host Cascarino gets Hodgson’s frustration and suggests the pitch-side monitor makes tackles look worse.

He said: “If you look at the photos, it looks quite serious, but if you watch it in normal play, he gets the ball. Is it a red card? No.

“It looks worse because you can freeze frame a photo, but I think it’s a genuine effort to get the ball.

“It is a foul, but it’s a yellow at worst.”
