Bruno Fernandes escapes punishment for challenge on Granit Xhaka as Manchester United star furious with Arsenal’s Cedric Soares for arm in face
Bruno Fernandes was at the centre of the action in the early stages of the clash between Arsenal and Manchester United at the Emirates on Saturday.
The midfielder had a weak appeal for a penalty in the ninth minute waved away by referee Michael Oliver following a challenge by Cedric Soares.
The Portgual international was then furious with the defender for a challenge minutes later when the pair went up for a header.
Cedric caught Fernandes in the face with his arm and the Man United man took issue with it.
The Arsenal defender was given a yellow card but talkSPORT’s Dean Ashton was surprised the incident didn’t warrant further investigation.
“I’m surprised it hasn’t been considered for a red card,” he said.
Fernandes then was perhaps lucky to not even be booked himself for a challenge on Granit Xhaka in the Arsenal half.
The midfielder raked his studs down the back of Xhaka’s ankle and VAR did take a look at the incident but deemed it was not worthy of anything more serious.
