The pressure is always on for the best man to deliver a blinder of a speech at a wedding, especially if it’s in front of some star-studded guests and the media.

But Gary Neville’s speech at David and Victoria Beckham’s wedding in July 1999 went down a hit as he made fun of his former Manchester United teammate.

The details about who exactly attended the ceremony at Luttrellstown Castle on the outskirts of Dublin are unclear but it’s reported there were over 230 guests.

One of those guests was Neville’s sister Tracey, who revealed that Gary began the speech wearing a sarong that Becks had sported while on holiday the previous year.

Tracey said on Friday’s Drive: “It was a beautiful wedding in a beautiful castle in Ireland, absolutely gorgeous. Apples on trees before you walked in…

“He did a speech and it was really, really funny. It was at the time where David had worn the sarong and that wasn’t heard of, was it?

Could Gary pull it off like Becks did?

“Gary wore one. He came out in it… you know Gary, he’d never be seen in anything like that so it created a lot of laughs.”

However, some of the details of the wedding are still a hit hazy to Tracey, who admits she couldn’t remember what present she got the happy couple.

She added: “My mum and dad got him a really good present, I contributed. Can’t remember what it was though!”
