Manchester United see Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka as Paul Pogba replacement
Manchester United are keen on bringing in Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich, with an eye replacing Paul Pogba in the middle.
Pogba’s future at the club has been in doubt for a while, with many believing he hasn’t met expectations since his £89 million transfer from Juventus.
The Frenchman enjoyed a successful European Championship despite France losing in the round of 16.
Although his nation crashed out to Switzerland unexpectedly, he was one of their best performers throughout the competition.
With just 12 months left on his contract, though, it is thought the Red Devils will cash in on him before risking losing him for free again.
Goretzka has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Germany and could be the perfect replacement for Pogba.
The 26-year-old shone for Bayern last season, helping them win a title and putting in some top performances.
He has been a key player in a one of the most dominant sides in the world, some of his honours include three league titles and a Champions League trophy.
The Germany international was a part of the team that lost to England in the round of 16, and throughout the competition represented his nation well.
According to German publication Sport, United have contacted his management in an attempt to begin negotiations, though sceptics will claim it is a tactic being used to engineer a better contract in Munich.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested in the German, with both teams looking to bolster their squads after Champions League disappointment last season.
Goretzka is said to be looking to extend his contract, and at this point has no interest in leaving the club.
