Transfer deadline day: 10 Premier League players who could be set for an EFL loan spell before window slams shut including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United starlets
Premier League clubs will be making final decisions on their squads for the upcoming season in the next day or two.
With the transfer window closing on Tuesday night, it means that clubs will be looking to sign players and move others on if they’re deemed surplus to requirements.
However there’s also a number of players who could be allowed to leave on loan as they go in search of more regular first team opportunities.
Clubs will be looking to develop the stars of tomorrow and that is where a potential loan deal to the EFL could come in handy.
With that in mind here are 10 players who could be set for a short-term move before the transfer window slams shut.
Cameron Carter-Vickers – Tottenham
The central defender looks like a prime contender to move out on loan this summer.
Carter-Vickers appears to be some way from Tottenham’s first team plans and based on the experience built over recent years a move to the Championship seems like the best fit.
Swansea, Stoke, Luton Town and Bournemouth have all benefitted from the 23-year-old’s undoubted ability and that makes him something of a safe bet for another club in the second tier.
Plenty of clubs in the Championship will be looking for a sturdy defensive addition and Carter-Vickers is likely to be the subject of a fair few enquiries.
Liam Delap – Manchester City
One of the most talented young players in the Premier League right now.
Delap is a player who looks like a genuine contender to follow in Phil Foden’s footsteps by breaking into Pep Guardiola’s first team plans at the Etihad.
However, the first focus has to be on playing regular first team football.
Plenty of clubs in the Championship are said to be keen on a move but following a recent injury talks have slowed somewhat.
If he’s ready to play then expect a handful of clubs to be sniffing around the talented 18-year-old striker.
Neco Williams – Liverpool
A player who has already made his breakthrough into Liverpool’s first team.
Williams has made 25 appearances for the Reds already in his career but with Trent Alexander-Arnold very much occupying the right-back spot, it means that opportunities could be limited this season.
It seems that the 20-year-old is likely to stick around as a squad option for Jurgen Klopp, but that won’t put off potential loan enquiries.
The lure of regular first team football will be very appealing for Williams and if the right club comes forward before deadline day then it might give Jurgen Klopp a decision to make.
Reiss Nelson – Arsenal
The Arsenal man is at something of a crossroads in his career.
Nelson is a player who was tipped for a very bright future but at 21 years of age it seems that his career has stalled somewhat at the Emirates.
The forward has made 48 appearances for the Gunners since making his debut four seasons ago but despite that, he’s never really established himself as a central player.
Nelson deserves to play regular first team football and perhaps a loan move to a top-end Championship club could be the perfect platform for him.
Tino Anjorin – Chelsea
A player who looks set for a very bright future.
The 19-year-old has already featured five times for Chelsea’s first team but with opportunities likely to be limited under Thomas Tuchel it seems like a move away good stand him in excellent stead for the future.
Anjorin may benefit from training with the club’s world class first team squad but surely moving to the Championship or League One for an extended run in the first team would add real maturity to his game and ensure that he is ready to challenge for a first team place in the long-term at Stamford Bridge.
Teden Mengi – Manchester United
The 19-year-old is someone who already has a taste of EFL football.
Mengi went out on loan to Derby County last term but endured a frustrating time with injury hampering his time at Pride Park.
This season could be the best chance for him to kick on.
It’s highly unlikely that Mengi will get any sort of sustained run in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side over the course of this season and so a loan move to the Championship could really serve him well.
Performances last term showed that he was ready and it’s like that several clubs would be interested.
Jack Clarke – Tottenham
A player who looks increasingly desperate for a really strong season.
After leaving Leeds United for Tottenham, Clarke looked like a player who was ready to make an immediate impact.
Unfortunately during loan spells with the likes of Stoke City and QPR, he hasn’t had the sort of game time that he’d want.
The 20-year-old is still pretty raw as a talent and so perhaps moving to the Championship or even a top level League One club could give him the platform to strengthen his all-round game.
Harvey White – Tottenham
Another Tottenham starlet who looks set for a very bright future.
The central midfielder has already featured twice for Spurs despite being just 19, however it was his loan move with Portsmouth where he really caught the eye.
White made 21 appearances for Pompey last term and while he wasn’t an ever-present, he certainly grew with the experience of playing at Fratton Park.
Another season of regular first team football could be just what the midfielder needs to establish himself as a first team player.
He’s not quite ready to feature for Spurs and so I’m sure that those around him will be encouraging White to get some game time.
Sam Greenwood – Leeds United
A player who has made a huge impression at under-23 level.
Greenwood has played for Arsenal and Sunderland before moving to Elland Road where he has certainly been prolific for the club’s development side.
The forward has made it onto the bench for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this term for the opener against Manchester United, but the reality is that there’s a significant gap between himself and the first team fold.
At 19 years of age Greenwood is certainly a player with time on his side but a loan move to the EFL could really see him add maturity to his game ensure that he’s ready to shine for Leeds in the future if called upon.
Morgan Gibbs-Whites – Wolves
A player who could attract some interest in the final days of the transfer window.
Gibbs-White has proven himself as someone who can play a role for Wolves but regular first team minutes have been hard to come by.
A loan spell with Swansea was hampered by injury last term, while he’s never really really kicked on and proven himself as a core player.
The midfielder may fancy his chances of proving himself under Bruno Lage this term, but based on his lack of opportunity in the club’s opening Premier League games he could be someone who is targeted by the Championship’s top sides.
