If he’s not careful, Jadon Sancho will end up ‘exactly the same’ as Manchester United teammate Donny van de Beek.

This is the verdict of club legend Gary Neville, who’s worried about the £74million man’s situation.

Sancho has had a difficult start to life at Old Trafford and has played no part in their last two outings.

Man United’s 3-0 win over Tottenham saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revert to a 3-5-2 system with Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani playing up front together.

Neville believes Sancho’s struggles haven’t been due to a lack of effort. However, he’s worried the England international will end up like Van de Beek, who’s desperately lacked game time since joining in the summer of 2020.

Speaking about Sancho after the win at Spurs, Neville said: “I can’t help but think about Van de Beek.

“Who’s put the name on him, who is sponsoring that at Manchester United? That £40million on that kid who has sat in the stands and not kicked a football for 18 months.

“Sancho, if he’s not careful, is going to end up exactly the same. He’s played in some pretty appalling performances, not him, I mean team performances.

“He’s come into a club that’s looked completely disjointed in terms of their football, he’s played in a far better unit at Borussia Dortmund.

“He’s come in and is probably thinking, ‘What the hell am I doing here, what is this?’

“There’s no organisation or structure, the defensive work rate is poor. He’s the only player, if you look at Manchester United’s defensive running stats for United’s front players that are anywhere near – I think he’s fifth or sixth of the front players from the top four clubs so he’s actually putting a shift in.

“He must be sitting on the bench thinking ‘what am I doing? I’m not going to play in this system.’

“Because I don’t see him in the two in midfield or the two up front, so he’s thinking ‘where does my career go at Manchester United?’ And Van de Beek is thinking the same.”
