Manchester United will not pay any compensation to Lokomotiv Moscow for Ralf Rangnick, who left the Russian side for the Premier League.

Rangnick was named as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement in the Old Trafford dugout, joining on a six-month deal until the end of the season, when he will then move upstairs in a consultancy role.

The highly-regarded German coach moved to Lokomotiv in July after years of success in his homeland, but has now been lured to Manchester after just four months in Russia.

And it has now been revealed by journalist Fabrizio Romano that any compensation for the deal has been waived with United expressing their gratitude to the Moscow-based side.

“The club wishes to place on record its thanks to Lokomotiv Moscow for their co-operation in the process of bringing Ralf to Manchester United,” a club statement read.

Known back home as the godfather of modern German football, 63-year-old Rangnick has achieved huge success in both Germany and Austria with innovative coaching and scouting methods.

After helping village side Hoffenheim rise from the lower divisions to the Champions League, Rangnick was hired by Red Bull in 2012, and took both Leipzig and Salzburg to new heights.

Alongside signing the likes of Erling Haaland and Sadio Mane as a director, Rangnick coached Leipzig during two separate spells, and will now return to the touchline with United.

However, he will have to wait to get to work with work visa issues stopping him from leading his new side in their Premier League game against Arsenal on Thursday.
