Newcastle look to hijack Everton’s move for Dele Alli with Tottenham outcast available on initial free transfer
Newcastle have reportedly made a late deadline day bid to pinch Tottenham outcast Dele Alli off Everton.
The Tottenham outcast has been heavily linked with a move away from the north London club amid his struggles for form in recent seasons.
And it looks like Alli will be getting his deadline day with the Toffees understood to be willing to sign him on a permanent deal.
In a shock twist in the transfer saga, it’s understood Everton will sign him for free, however, they will have to pay £10million once he makes 20 appearances. talkSPORT also understands there are ‘significant add-ons’ that stretch beyond the £10m in the deal.
However, in perhaps an even bigger shock, Newcastle have entered the race for Alli late in the day, according to The Athletic. The report adds the Magpies are keen to take the 25-year-old on loan for the rest of the season.
But talkSPORT understands negotiations between Everton and Alli are too far down for Newcastle to steal him from their grasp.
Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp believes new Everton boss Frank Lampard can be the one to get Alli’s career back on track.
Redknapp told talkSPORT Breakfast: “He’s been linked with Dele Alli, I’d love to see him take Dele Alli and turn his career around.
“He’s a great talent, someone somewhere, and Dele Alli also, needs to get him back on track. There’s a great player in there somewhere.”
Lampard is also set to team up with Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek completing a loan move to Goodison Park.
Redknapp also holds hope Lampard can get the best out of the struggling Dutchman too.
Redknapp added: “Frank knows he needs some results. They are sucked into it for sure. He’s getting the boy from Man United hopefully today, whose career needs resurrecting.
“His confidence is low, but there’s a footballer is there. We saw him at Ajax, the boy can really play.
“It’s up to Frank now to get the best out of him.”
