Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly close to joining Barcelona on loan, meaning Eddie Nketiah will remain at Arsenal.

Aubameyang has fallen out of favour at the Emirates and was axed as the club’s captain in December.

He has not featured for the Gunners since a 2-1 defeat to Everton in the same month.

Arsenal have been trying to get the Gabon international off their books and, according to The Athletic, Barcelona are ready to snap him up on loan on deadline day.

It’s understood the salary is the only big remaining stumbling block, with the two clubs deliberating over who covers what proportion of the striker’s £350,000 per-week wages.

The report adds that Barcelona’s swoop for Aubameyang means Nketiah will not be allowed to leave, given he and Alexandre Lacazette are the only remaining out-and-out no.9s that Mikel Arteta has at his disposal.

Crystal Palace have been strongly linked with the 22-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season and looks set to walk away for nothing.

Sky Sports reported that Palace have failed with a second bid for Nketiah and he looks set to stay.

As it stands, the London Colney academy graduate will walk away for nothing in the summer.

Arsenal have had a hugely frustrating transfer window, having missed out on several targets, including Dusan Vlahovic and Arthur Melo.

There have been several outgoings from the squad, however, with the club forced reduce their wage bill.

Pablo Mari, Folarin Balogun, Calum Chambers and Sead Kolasinac have all departed, while no-one has been brought in.
