Liverpool have secured the services of highly-rated teenager Ben Doak from Celtic for a compensation fee of around £600,000.

The 16-year-old was linked with a move to Anfield for weeks, and has now secured his transfer to Merseyside.

The winger is regarded as one of the brightest talents to progress from the Celtic youth academy.

Earlier this week, Doak netted a hat-trick for Scotland Under-17s and helped them qualify for the European Championships.

The Athletic reports Celtic have banked a £600,00 compensation fee for the player who hadn’t yet signed a professional deal at Parkhead.

Bhoys manager Ange Postecoglou was a huge fan of Doak, having given him his senior debut off the bench against Dundee United earlier this campaign.

Doak also made a three-minute cameo appearance in Celtic’s 3-0 victory over Rangers in February.

The winger, who can also play as a full-back, had been lined up for a big future at Celtic Park.

But he’s decided to join up with Liverpool, although he will be unable to feature in any matches until next season.

It’s a similar move to the one that saw the Reds land Harvey Elliott from Fulham, who has gone on to feature for the first-time on many occasions this term.

The Athletic’s report adds Leeds were keen on landing Doak, and had appeared to offer him more lucrative terms, but the Scotland youth international’s heart was set on a move to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Doak is likely to be joined at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre next season by Trent Kone-Doherty, a 15-year-old who currently plays with Derry City.

Kone-Doherty has several suitors, but the Belfast Telegraph report Klopp’s side are the clear front-runners for his signature.
