‘I don’t like players who smile too much’ – Manchester United legend Roy Keane frustrated with Marcus Rashford and ‘immature’ performances
Roy Keane told Marcus Rashford to stop smiling all the time, adding how ‘frustrated’ he has been with the Manchester United star.
Like many others in the team, Rashford has struggled for the Red Devils this season and the forward’s future at the club is reportedly uncertain.
The England international has managed just five goals all season and he could be one of the casualties under the new Erik ten Hag regime, with Arsenal being linked with a £45million move for the forward.
And Keane took issue with Rashford smiling and joking while warming-up before facing Chelsea on Thursday.
He told Sky Sports: “He’s got to do a lot more. I’m really frustrated with him.
“I think they all are [playing for their future]. You are always in a sense playing for your future. You are talking about a reaction from the manager there, as if you need lots of setbacks to get a reaction.
“The key is to do it week in, week out.
“Every time I see Marcus warming up, he’s always smiling. I don’t like players who smile too much. You smile when you score or do something.
“We always said when he first burst onto the scene, he affects games. He doesn’t affect games any more. He does very little.
“His performances last week, he played like an immature kid in terms of his hold-up play.
“Tonight, he’s playing in a wide position and that’s probably easier for him.”
When put to him that it possibly showed Rashford was relaxed, Keane added: “Not all the time. Every time I see him in the warm-up, he’s laughing and smiling. I go back to it, you’re going to war and fighting for your future.
“You smile when you score a goal or something that affects the game or something that gets people off their seat.
“Not in the warm-up, come on.”
