Trent Alexander-Arnold’s rest for Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle gave Jordan Henderson a chance to stake his claim for set-pieces.

But judging by Alexander-Arnold’s reaction to a woeful effort during the first-half at St James’ Park, that’ll be the last time Henderson takes one.

Despite being rotated to the bench for the Reds’ crucial Premier League clash, right-back Alexander-Arnold was keen to get a closer look at an effort blazed over the bar by his teammate from the edge of the box.

The defender leaned over to watch a replay on a screen in front of him, scrutinising Henderson’s appalling effort, before laughing with his teammates on the bench.

We imagine that won’t be the last Henderson hears of the attempt.

Alexander-Arnold has earned the right to run the rule over Liverpool’s set-pieces this season, with his right foot emerging as one of Jurgen Klopp’s key weapons.

Since the start of the 2018/19 season, the 23-year-old has 44 assists – more than any other player.

The right-back’s ball-striking ability has been compared with the likes of England legend David Beckham.
