Pau Torres has refused to rule out staying at Villarreal despite significant transfer interest from the Premier League.

The 25-year-old is regarded as one of the best defenders in European football having played a key role in the Spanish side’s journey to the Champions League semi-finals under Unai Emery.

Torres is under contract until 2024 but has a £55million release clause in his contract that makes him a hugely appealing option for clubs in England.

Previously targeted by Tottenham, reports have suggested that new Man United boss Erik ten Hag is determined to bring the Spaniard to Old Trafford, however with Villarreal offering him a new contract themselves, his future appears to be in some doubt this summer.

Addressing his future, Torres appears to be calm about the situation and insists that he’d be open to staying at Villarreal.

Speaking to AS, he said: “Right now there is nothing at all, there is talk of many things like every year.

“I have peace of mind of being where they want me, at the club of my life and I have this offer right now that I value as very positive.

“There is nothing right now, the only thing I have is the offer from Villarreal, so I am very calm.”

The Spaniard added: “It’s something I’ve always talked about with the president, that different situations could arise.

“The club loves me and I am very grateful. I know that I can stay here for many more years because the affection is mutual.

“We’ll see what we decide. Everything is possible and I don’t rule anything out.”
