Arsenal will look to get back to winning ways when they welcome Nottingham Forest to the Emirates.

The Gunners were beaten by PSV in the Europa League – just their second loss of the season – following a draw against Southampton last weekend, raising doubts about their Premier League title chances.

Manager Mikel Arteta’s side will be keen to prove they are in it for the long run at the top of the Premier League by regaining top spot after being leapfrogged by Man City yesterday.

The visitors sit at the bottom of the table but beat Liverpool 1-0 last time out in a spectacular result at the City Ground.

Steve Cooper’s men now travel to the Emirates to try and claim another big scalp as they look to move out of the relegation zone.

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest: Team news

Arsenal could be without centre-back Gabriel as he was seen limping after the Gunners’ defeat to PSV in midweek.

Emile Smith Rowe and Oleksandr Zinchenko are likely to remain sidelined through injury. Mohamed Elneny will also be absent.

Forest have struggled with injuries and will still be without new signings Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards and Harry Toffolo.

Midfielder Lewis O’Brien could also be out after suffering from illness in recent weeks, missing the last three games.

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest: What has been said?

Gunners boss Arteta is keen for his side to bounce back after defeat in midweek.

“I’m very disappointed,” he said. “It’s the end of a long run where we won a lot of games.

“It is our first defeat [since the start of September] and we have to reset and analyse what happened.

“It’s really difficult to win every game in Europe. We are in a really good position. We’re disappointed but there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves.

“We have to react. On Sunday, we have a really important game.”

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest: Match facts

  • Both of Nottingham Forest’s Premier League wins this season have been 1-0 victories thanks to Taiwo Awoniyi goals. All three of the Nigerian’s goals in the Premier League so far have been the opening goal of the game, also scoring first in Forest’s 3-2 defeat to Fulham.
  • Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka has scored three Premier League goals this season, as many as he had in his previous three campaigns combined, while only in 2018-19 has he ever scored more (4). This could be his 200th Premier League appearance, at least 42 more than any other Arsenal player since he joined in 2016.
  • Having scored in the second half in each of their first nine Premier League games this season (12 goals in total), Arsenal have failed to find the net after half-time in each of their last two.
  • Following their 1-0 win against Liverpool last time out, Nottingham Forest are looking to win consecutive Premier League games for the first time since their final three in the 1998-99 campaign. However, Forest are without a win on the road so far this season (D2 L4), failing to score in each of their last four.
  • Arsenal haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 10 Premier League home games, though they have won the last eight in a row (L2). In English top-flight history, only one side has ever won nine consecutive home games while conceding each time, with Aston Villa doing so in their first ever nine games in 1888-89.
  • Arsenal have won each of their last seven Premier League games against promoted sides, last winning eight in a row between January 2013 and April 2014. At home, the Gunners are unbeaten in 34 games against promoted teams (W29 D5), since a 1-0 loss to Newcastle in November 2010.
  • This is Nottingham Forest’s first Premier League match at the Emirates. Only two of the previous 40 away sides to play there in the competition have won their first game there (West Ham in 2007 and Hull in 2008), with 15 of the last 16 losing their first game (D1).
  • Nottingham Forest have won their last two league games in London, beating Millwall and Fulham 1-0 in the Championship last season. They’ve not won three consecutive away league games against sides from the capital since March 1989, the third game of which was at Arsenal (3-1).
  • Nottingham Forest have won two of their last 27 league visits to Arsenal (D11 L14), with Brian Clough leading them to consecutive victories in 1987 and 1989.
  • This is the first league meeting between Arsenal and Nottingham Forest since January 1999, a 1-0 away win for the Gunners. They’ve met four times in cup competitions since, with Arsenal winning the two League Cup ties and Forest winning two FA Cup ties.
