‘I’ve learnt so much’ – Everton star James Tarkowski hails Chelsea legend Frank Lampard’s coaching as Toffees’ defensive improvement continue
Everton defender James Tarkowski has hailed the impact of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard on his game.
Now a manager, the former midfielder was more known for perfectly timed runs and expert finishing during an exceptional Premier League career.
He’s clearly doing all he can to earn his chops in defensive sense, though.
Seeking to improve a leaky defence last term which conceded 66 league goals, he and the club made smart moves in the transfer market.
The Toffees picked up Tarkowski on a free and landed Conor Coady on loan from Wolves.
Ex-Burnley star Tarkowski, excelled under the stoicism of Sean Dyche, a former defender, but has admitted his game is reaching a new level with Lampard.
“It’s been incredible. The coaching is unbelievable,” he told talkSPORT.
“Obviously I knew the player he was but I’ve learnt so much in the last six months. I just feel like I’m still improving under him.
“I don’t ever feel like I’m getting stale. Since I’ve gone there it’s been a breath of fresh air for me. I’m learning new things every day.
“There is a bit of expectation to be a leader in there but that’s what I want to be and I’m enjoying taking on that role as well.”
