Marcus Rashford scores 100th Manchester United goal with England boss Gareth Southgate watching on as Christian Eriksen delivers ‘a full-back’s nightmare’ against West Ham
Marcus Rashford scored his 100th goal for Manchester United to put them ahead against West Ham United in the Premier League.
The forward planted a powerful header past Lukasz Fabianski in the Hammers’ goal following a wonderful curled cross from Christian Eriksen at Old Trafford.
Rashford made his debut for the Red Devils in 2016, aged 18, scoring in a Europa League game against FC Midtjylland days before netting twice in a 3-2 win over Arsenal in the Premier League.
The strikes saw him become the club’s third youngest goalscorer in a league game and their youngest European goalscer.
And now he’s now reached a century of strikes in 318 appearances thanks to his header against the Hammers.
But it was the cross from the Danish star that really impressed one former Premier League star.
Speaking on talkSPORT, ex-Chelsea and West Ham star Scott Minto said: “Let me tell you, that’s a full-back’s nightmare when the ball is whipped in with such quality and the guy is able to run and jump on top of you in the way that Marcus Rashford did.
“There’s a really good one-two with Bruno Fernandes who does really well with his head, but Eriksen takes that touch and there’s not that many people in world football, or certainly in the Premier League, who can whip the ball in when it’s kind of bouncing on the half-volley with pace to the far post and just inviting someone to get on the end of it.
“Marcus Rashford, he had a taste for it earlier with the header and that was a bullet header. It was a good connection and I’m telling you now, the goalkeeper had absolutely no chance.”
For Rashford it was his sixth goal of the season and a centurion strike for his boyhood club.
With Gareth Southgate also watching on at Old Trafford, Rashford will be delighted to have notched.
The forward appears likely to be heading to Qatar with England’s World Cup squad, as long as he is fit, but the goal infront of his national team boss will help ease any concern.
