Tottenham ‘got away with it’ in comeback win over Bournemouth, as Gabby Agbonlahor says Antonio Conte’s side is one-dimensional, easily found out and claims Davinson Sanchez ‘should never play again’

Tottenham have become too one-dimensional and easily found out under Antonio Conte, according to talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor.

Spurs showed their character as they fought to a 3-2 comeback victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League.

But many fans would have been frustrated with another stodgy first-half performance.

Wales international Kieffer Moore struck twice to give the Cherries a stunning 2-0 lead at the Vitality Stadium, and were good value for it with the visitors failing to impress.

However Spurs turned it on as Conte made sweeping changes to his side in the second-half.

Ryan Sessegnon’s goal came out of the blue, but it kicked the north Londoners into gear, with Ben Davies pulling Tottenham level with a header before Rodrigo Bentancur secured an unlikely victory in the second minute of stoppage-time with a goal from a set piece.

Despite sealing another three points to remain third in the Premier League, Agbonlahor wasn’t convinced.

“Spurs got away with one tonight,” the former Aston Villa captain said on talkSPORT’s Full Time Phone-In.

“If you look at the goals they scored, it was poor defending from Bournemouth and they were unlucky.

“If you stop Harry Kane and stop Heung-min Son, you stop Spurs, and for most of the game that’s exactly what Bournemouth did.

“Tottenham started the game with just two attacking players on the pitch. Antonio Conte wants to play defensive football, but it was very poor from Spurs.”

It was a particularly poor outing for defender Davinson Sanchez, who was dragged off on 58 minutes and replaced by Eric Dier who then played out of position in a back-three – which shows what Conte thought of his display.

And Agbonlahor wasn’t impressed either, so much so that he wouldn’t be surprised if you never see him play in a Spurs shirt under Conte again.

“The other thing is Davinson Sanchez – I wouldn’t play him again. I would not play him again for Spurs.

“The combination of Sanchez and Emerson Royal on the right hand side is dreadful, let’s be honest.

“Why can’t Spurs get up for games in the first-half?”

Tottenham fan, talkSPORT presenter and host of Spurs podcast ‘The View from the Lane’ Danny Kelly joined Gabby on the show, and he had his say on the state of the current team.

And he does not seem impressed – like many fans in north London – with the way Conte has his side playing and how he’s wasting their world-class attacking talent.

“They are so defensively set out, in the big leagues across Europe I don’t see another top team who are as defensive as Spurs are – not even Atletico Madrid these days,” he said.

“It’s in their minds now not to go out and have a go at the start of games, and yet by the end of the game to be fair to them they’ve had 20-plus shots and 20-plus corners.

“So on paper they were the better team, and they got the three points, but Their performances do not match their results.

“Spurs are a very Italian side now, I cannot complain about the results because the points-per-game are still very good.

“But it’s difficult to watch if you’re a Tottenham fan and I’m still not sure it’s the best use of the forward players they have on the books there.”
