‘They’ve lost another big player’ – Liverpool claimed to have more pull in the transfer market than rivals Manchester United after completing Cody Gakpo move
Liverpool are a more desirable club in the transfer market than Manchester United, according to talkSPORT host Jamie O’Hara.
Such a claim has come amid the news that Cody Gakpo has officially joined the Reds from PSV Eindhoven in January.
The Dutchman had been heavily linked with a move to United, but he has now arrived at Anfield rather than Old Trafford.
In light of when the news was first announced, former Tottenham midfielder O’Hara has said that Liverpool have a bigger pull in the market compared to their rivals.
Speaking on Wednesday’s Sports Bar on talkSPORT, he said: “When I look at Manchester United now and I look at Liverpool.
“If I’m a top footballer like Gakpo is and he’s looking for a move, I’m going Liverpool.
“Because there’s too many players over the years that have gone to Manchester United and failed, and failed miserably, and their careers have been completely knocked off course.
“You go to Liverpool, you’re going to be a success. Huge football club, brilliant fanbase and the owners seem to get it done.
“Manchester United owners again, twiddling their thumbs and they’ve lost another big player to Liverpool.”
Gakpo has become the latest player linked with United to join Liverpool instead, following Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
The 23-year-old could even make his Reds debut as early as next Monday (January 2) when they travel to Brentford in the Premier League.
United will now have to search for other targets having lost out on the Netherlands star.
However, Erik ten Hag’s side will not be able to make any permanent acquisitions in January due to their owners’ intentions to sell the club.
