Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has proven to be a goalscoring machine in his debut season in England.

The Norwegian has set plenty of records this season, and could go one step further this weekend against Liverpool, should he feature.

Haaland currently sits on an outstanding 42 goals across all competitions for City thus far.

And he could be set to exceed the efforts of some of the best to ever grace the English top-flight.

Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah both have the record for the most goals scored for a Premier League club in a single season across all competitions.

Van Nistelrooy fired in 44 goals in the 2002/03 season with Salah repeating the feat in the 2017/18 campaign.

Haaland scoring twice against Liverpool would see him equal the record, but a hat-trick would set a new record total.

Scoring a treble on Saturday is certainly not out of the question, considering he has already banged in six hat-tricks this term.

Haaland’s five goals against RB Leipzig in the Champions League saw him set the record for the most goals scored by a City player in a single season with 39.

The striker also became the fastest player in the competition’s history to score 30 goals, doing so at the age of just 22.

City know they need a win against Liverpool to keep their title hopes alive as they sit eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

However, Haaland is not 100 per cent guaranteed to start against the Reds due to a groin injury he picked up in their FA Cup quarter-final win against Burnley.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, Citizens boss Pep Guardiola said: “Erling is recovering.

“This afternoon we have the last training session so we’ll see how he feels and I think that’s all.

“We’ll see this afternoon. The last training is at 4pm and we’ll see how he feels.”
