‘He was so disappointed’ – Alan Brazil reveals what Mauricio Pochettino told him about Tottenham job
Mauricio Pochettino was left disappointed by Tottenham’s reluctance to contact him about the vacant managerial post at the club.
The Argentine was tipped to make a return to the club following the exit of Antonio Conte last month.
Pochettino has been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain ten months ago and has never hidden his love for Spurs – a feeling reciprocated by many of the club’s fanbase who have sung his name at recent games.
Spurs are still without a permanent manager but now it appears that Pochettino will make a more unexpected return to London.
Chelsea have emerged as the frontrunners to land the 51-year-old with an imminent deal expected.
While Pochettino looks as though he will be handed the task of returning Chelsea to former glories, talkSPORT host Alan Brazil, who has recently spent time with the Argentine, revealed he was disappointed Spurs didn’t contact him over an emotional return to the club.
“I really like the guy, [Pochettino]. I think he’s a top, top bloke but one thing I do know he was so disappointed that Spurs didn’t contact him,” said Brazil.
The news will disappoint many despondent Tottenham supporters who have seen their team fall away in the race for the top four.
A 6-1 defeat at Newcastle last Sunday compounded their misery with the team struggling for form and the future of talismanic striker Harry Kane still up in the air.
Spurs bounced back from Sunday’s mauling to draw 2-2 with Manchester United on Thursday but the battle for a top-four finish remains out of their control with just five games left to play.
Tottenham face a trip to rivals Liverpool this weekend knowing defeat is likely to strike a huge dent in the club’s Champions League ambitions.
