Darren Bent might have upset a few fans of his old side Tottenham by claiming Celtic are a bigger club.

The discussion came amid news that Spurs have identified the Scottish champions' manager, Ange Postecoglou, as a leading candidate for their head coach vacancy.

talkSPORT understands that the Greek-Australian is now in chairman Daniel Levy’s sights to replace Antonio Conte as the north London side’s next full-time manager.

But whether it’s the right move for the coach and the club is up for debate.

Bent played at White Hart Lane between 2007 and 2009 and scored 18 times on the way to becoming a member of the Premier League’s 100-goal club.

However, the talkSPORT host suggested Postecoglou would be joining a smaller club even if he is making a move up in the world of management.

“Yeah of course it is a step up, but which is the bigger club? Celtic,” he said.

“They’ve won the European Cup so I’d probably say Celtic are the bigger club, they have a bigger fan base.

“With the facilities they’ve got at Spurs the potential is bigger, but I think it’s a risk and for me personally there’s options I’d have ahead of Postecoglou.”

In scenes reminiscent of the summer of 2021, Spurs and Levy again appear to be struggling to nail down a top candidate.
